Power of Words and Its Unconscious Effects

Image
Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind. ~ Rudyard Kipling. Most often, we underestimate the power of words deposited into our subconscious. The power it generates when put into action is exceedingly greater than an atomic bomb, the effects which shape our character will only be either of two natures - positive or negative. Thoughts are words the mind use, to send and receive information. It is properly and popularly believed that, if you change your thinking, you'll definitely change your character and that directly changes your life. This simple fact complements the most important application of the law of cause and effect; Thoughts are causes and conditions are effects. One such scenario played out between Adam and Devil and the wind of this thought came; have you ever wondered how a little conversation between Adam and Devil, turn into a nightmare for Adam? The consequences that plagued a little disobedience caused havoc in the realm of the inta

The School of An Empire

The "Flynn effect" -- the fact that each generation scores higher on an IQ test than the generation before it. Are we actually getting smarter, or just thinking differently? ~ James Flynn. Historians have it that, the present day school came from about 300 years ago, it came from the last and biggest empire on the planet - the British empire. They created a design that is wonderfully constructed, a design that is still with us today (Only God knows the design the future holds.) Imagine, a system without computers or telephones but with data, hand written on pieces of paper and travelling by ship, this empire created a design that can be defined as a global computer. 300 years ago, that's how information was conveyed. However, for this global computer to be in operation, they will have to produce another machine, called the school which in turn, will produce people capable of running this global computer. The principles this school of the Empire was

Hunter and Cultivator: The Entrepreneur's ability

Image
Once upon a time, in a 2000 year old book. There lived two young, boys Esau and Jacob. Esau was a skillful hunter who knows the in and out of the forest. Figuratively speaking, all the animals in the forest were always terrified of him. Jacob, was…well, a cool guy. Anyway, at the end of the long story, Esau was left but to one blessing from his father - the Entrepreneur's ability. This marked the beginning of his turn around. Mensa Otabil calls this; “the blessing of seeking a change because of discontent”. Eventually, at the "real" end of the story, these two guys became successful in there respect. But before Esau received the blessing of "Entrepreneur's ability" from his father. One major lesson I've learnt from Esau (a hunter) and Jacob (a cultivator) is summed up in 3 differences. 1. A hunter uses physical strength to produce, but a cultivator uses ideas to produce 2. A hunter hunts after one animal at a time, but a cultiva

How does "His Excellency" Come into Play in Nigerian Politics

Image
On a cool Friday evening, everything was set for the commencement of a political red-carpet event and the guests trooped in one after the other to grace the glorious commemoration, until all invited guests were sited on dedicated comfy chairs. The uninvited ones were there too, standing and cheering as if they were in a football stadium. Then the master of ceremony (MC) took position for the announcement of the names of invited guests. But the cheering grew louder immediately the MC, put on an awkward grin as he introduced an eminent politician whose name is, His Excellency... This is an excerpt from my guest post on moraks blog and it's centered on one major fact; "What our politicians encourage, will have either a positive or negative impact on the growth of our country". The Idea behind this article, is to bring to bare, the effects of a statement we hear much too often but take little cognizance of its effect on the citizenry. You can read it here or

The Greatest Footballer Who Ever Lived

Image
Every great man has become great; every successful man has succeeded, in proportion as he has confined his powers to one particular channel. ~ ORISON SWETT MARDEN I remember listening to one of the great men I admire and respect, while talking he made a temporary strike on a particular statement, he said when people look at you, what do they see? Do they see your strength or your weakness? To be forthright about it, the issue concerning strength and weakness is very popular but nothing can be compared with using something we can see, in explaining what cannot be seen, it’s more like, a practical work explains more better even to a lay man than a theoretical one. For a while now, a lot of debates have been started on who the greatest footballer who ever lived is or was, some say he's from Brazil, others say he is from Argentina and a few are confused but it doesn't matter which one it is, all we know is, all the nominees have one thing in common and that’s exact

One Lesson from the Country that Ruled the World

Image
All histories must necessarily have reference to the existence and condition of Man. The use is left for him to decide. No country have been particularly opportune to rule the world. However, there have been empires that have come close. Some of these empires ruled portions of the world for brief periods of time but none came close to this one empire. Until about 70 years ago this empire had invaded 90 percent of the world's countries; colonizing the United States of America, Australia, India, and a greater part of Africa. Other countries it didn’t out rightly colonize, it exerted some measure of influence over them, using armed presence, paying diplomatic and economic visits to China and Japan in the 18th century. This empire is none other than Great Britain. Britain, a tiny island that would fit into Nigeria about 20times has the most awful weather you can think of, a very moody weather. The British didn’t have much in terms of Land and Labor in the 16th and 17th cent

Lightning Processes, Understanding Processes: The Similarity

Image
“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; The real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” ~ Plato I remember a story my former school teacher told me and of course, I was at a very tender and not-so impressive age then, apparently, it was to get me scared of lightning, reminiscing about it, only makes me laugh. Well, the story behind this title is similar to how people look at an artistic sketch and find different interpretations; mine can be categorized under the word “Understanding”. Starting with the obvious, when the storm clouds are charged like giant capacitors in the sky. The upper portion of the cloud is positively charged and the lower is negatively but if by chance, these two charges happen to fight over who's in charge, the storm clouds discharge and the result is Lightning and it occurs, not from bottom up but from above then moves down. This is just the summarized version of how lightning forms and it’s an allegory of what t

5 Life Principles I Learnt From How A Car Operates

Image
What you are looking for in the far distant part of the land is not far from where you are living. ~ An adage from the southwestern part of Nigeria It takes a careful observation to discover that it's a lot easier to use what is known to explain what's unknown than to use what is unknown to explain what is known. Galileo once wrote, "You cannot teach a person what he does not already know, you can only bring what he does know to his awareness" And this article is based on this remarkable principle. An interesting analogy can be drawn from the principles of operations of a car, which has become part of our lives, can be applicable in enhancing our lifestyle. This is an excerpt from my guest post on nuggets4nobles blog and it's centered on 5 simple principles you already know but relating these known facts with something you can feel in your emotion creates a whole new understanding that is unique in itself. You can read it here or click the pictu

Faith, Imagination and You: A Captain-Sailor Scenario

Image
I am not moved by what I see. I am not moved by what I feel. I am moved only by what I believe. ~ Smith Wigglesworth. A picture paints a thousand words and that was exactly how I felt after looking at one particular picture, actually, I think it was just a few hundreds. Nevertheless, I was considering a picture some days ago, a picture of 2 guys on a ship, one obviously a Captain and the other, a Sailor. Both of them were looking beyond the horizon, suddenly the Captain cried out; LAND HO! I CAN SEE OUR DESTINATION STRAIGHT AHEAD! But the sailor looked and said; I don't see anything! Now, you might ask, how come this captain saw the destination but the sailor couldn't, at least both of them have eyes. And this is where the whole gist got interesting. The captain, of course had an extra gadget with him - the telescope but the experienced sailor didn't. The only difference between the Captain and the Sailor in this picture is just the telescope. The

How People Make Decisions

Image
"What I want to do, that I do not do but what I hate, that I do" ~ Apostle Paul There is this general conception that we all have a body, soul and spirit somewhere and somehow, within us. Well, it seems to me, the word "Spirit" is also widely accepted among scientists, some call it a disposition (somebody's personality or temperament), others call it the life force of a person (the vital force that characterizes a human being as being alive). Now, we are not here to debate on the right definition, but... The tiny question that pops up in my mind many years ago wasn't why do people behave this way or that way but how do people behave this way or that way , I think it was due to the fact that I was tired of learning the negative side of people, wanted to know more about the best side of people. If you are expecting a complete methodology or procedures of steps human beings take to make decisions, then you need to read this, because it'

Village Mentality: The Chief of Africa's Problems.

Image
…they carried the village with them to the city and converted the city to a village. --Mensa Otabil Though the practice of democratic governance is now widespread in Africa, one soiled attitude (termed the village mentality) has extended its roots into the mental fabric of several African leaders and is diminishing their efficiency at solving the continent’s problems.  Over the years, each foregoing generation of leaders seemed to have passed on the baton of village mentality to its successors. As Mensa Otabil once put it, " they carried the village with them to the city and converted the city to a village."  Before I establish my thoughts on the transition of this meretricious mentality from the village to the city, let's make some facts known. Preceding the dramatic revolution in the political ideas of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the prosperity of an European country largely depended on the quality of its monarch (whether King

The Mystique of Songs and its Parallel Purpose

"What you are hearing is creating what you are feeling and your personal happiness is influenced by the words that come out of your mouth" ~ Mike Murdock Can it be said that anything that operates in the realm of the intangible operates in the realm of the spirit? It's believed that everything that happens in our physical (tangible) world was first conceived in the spiritual (intangible), take for example, every invention started from an idea which is intangible in nature. Maybe, this saying is true after all; the spiritual births the physical. Recently, I've been fascinated by some stuffs and one of them is the word "Lullaby" , how come a soft music have a tremendous effect on a baby who doesn't even understand one plus one, I mean, how come such soft music soothes a baby, definitely, there must be some form of mystery behind such music. So, I decided to observe a lunatic man who is supposed to be in the psychiatric hospital but fo
